Letter from Home
Riverside
This is the masterpiece debut album from 1962 by Eddie Jefferson, a renowned American jazz-soul singer famous for his innovative vocalizations sung to instrumental melodies. He is also known for his cover of Horace Silver's Psychedelic Sally, a popular track in the Northern Soul scene.
Features include a cover of Take the 'A' Train, upbeat numbers like Billie's Bounce and Keep Walkin', and a cover of the Latin jazz classic A Night in Tunisia.
Producer Orin Keepnews clearly had high expectations for this singer, assembling top musicians from Riverside, conducting them under Ernie Wilkins, and even writing lyrics himself.
