This is classified as a medium-grit to coarse-grit whetstone.
It is suitable for rust removal and for tools such as sickles and agricultural implements.
Any surface can be used for sharpening.
As this is a natural stone, it may have hard and soft spots, air bubbles, speckles, or minor chips. Air bubbles are often preferred as they hold the slurry. The stone may rarely crack. We cannot offer compensation for this. Please purchase only if you understand the nature of natural stones.
Stones with distinct and beautiful dark wood grain patterns are more likely to crack from the darker areas.

[Reference Description]
Amakusa whetstones are mined from the island of Oyanano Town, Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, an area associated with Amakusa Shiro's war funds.
They have long been favored for sharpening knives, carpentry tools, and agricultural tools.
Recently, due to the spread of artificial whetstones and the aging of producers, they have become less common in the market.
We are now delivering them directly from Amakusa to those who can use them.

*Grit size varies for each natural whetstone.

◎Tiger Stone (Torato - Red): Reference Grit 500-800
◎Nakashiro (Tokubisu): Between red and white, Nakajiro
◎Jo-haku (White): Reference Grit 1000
*Jo-haku is no longer being mined.
