Ash used in tea ceremonies, such as Rikyu Ash, can be used even if it is old. In fact, ash that has been aged over many years is prized as old ash (furuhai).

How to care for old ash (if necessary):
Drying: If it is damp, dry it completely in the sun.
Sifting: Sift until it becomes a fine powder, removing lumps and impurities (such as charcoal dust).
Heat treatment (if necessary): Old ash may retain an odor, so once it is completely burned (heated in a kettle), dirt and odor will disappear, resulting in beautiful white ash.

Old ash provides a unique character and appearance that new ash cannot, so please make use of it.

The stand and kettle are new and unused, but the box is slightly crushed and reinforced with tape.
