Antique 19th-Century French Giltwood Oval Rocaille Mirror
N/A
A beautifully timeworn 19th-century French giltwood mirror, featuring an elegant oval form and exuberant Rocaille-inspired carving. Sweeping foliate details and a sculptural crest frame the original-style mirror glass, while layers of aged gilding, darkened recesses, and visible wear give the piece the depth and character that only comes with age. Sourced from France, this is exactly the kind of small-scale antique mirror that adds an architectural, collected element to a room without overwhelming it. History & Craftsmanship Dating to the 19th century, the mirror reflects the French Rocaille and Rococo Revival tradition, characterized by asymmetrical scrollwork, curling foliage, and ornamental carving. The giltwood surface has mellowed beautifully over time, revealing warm gold, bronze, and underlying wood tones throughout. Condition Antique condition with substantial age-related character. There is visible loss and wear to the gilded finish, scattered surface marks, and areas where the underlying material is exposed. A visible split/crack is present in the carved frame and has been photographed in detail. The mirror glass also shows the subtle surface wear and imperfections expected with age. These characteristics are part of the piece’s antique patina and are reflected in the photographs. Please review all images carefully for condition. Dimensions Approximately 22.8” H × 14.6” W (58 × 37 cm)
